This was the day to try out my new reel. The only problem was, i blank every time i use new gear :? Would today be different.
I was nice and early at the FBAC, to check out the gulleys along the beach for possible good fishing spots.
The sea was flat and the sun shining, for a while. Not good for daylight fishing.
A close gulley ran north towards Cleveleys...

Image

Much of the same in front of FBAC...

Image

Further south was a different prospect, it was beyond the Norbreck...

Image

Dave and Sparky arrived and after a quick huddle ;) We decided to fish towards the boating pool. The drive along the lower walk took time, avoiding the joggers and people walking dogs. We were met by the coastguard, checking out some numptys on the beach (nearly got cut off).
We turned the corner to the boating pool and was met with a 30+ strong preston anglers match
Plan B.....Resulted in a 'U' turn. So, we parked at the red bank road area. We soon had our gear set up. I gave my reel a few blasts, set the mags. Then all in....
and we waited...
Chris & Carol turned up for a natter. Must have brought the fish with them 8) Kammy was straight in...

Image

My rod started to twitch, then again and i went for it. My superstition had been broken...

Image

As time started to get on, sparky had still not caught and high water was getting close. Dave managed another dab to the amusment of our spectators...

Image

The largest cheer of day went to sparky 8) He also managed an insize dab...

Image

As the tide started to ebb, our thoughts were, if we had our lot. Not to be, Kammy was on a roll ;) Number three came up the side of the wall...

Image

So as it stood Dave 3, Shacky & Sparky 1.
Another bite on my rod, resulted in a Mutant Dab  it was big enough, non the less...

Image

Time was running out rapidly, as was the tide. Me and sparky both had another fish apiece, under-size :(
We had some good banter and the weather held out, bar a few snow flakes...

Image

Just before the death, Sparky stole the limelight. With the largest fish of the day, a flounder in the shallow water...

Image

So there you have it, Three fish apiece and no blanks
and we had a good laugh.......Image

Result.....
1st....Dave Kam.....72cm...10pts...JL Rogers cup winner (Well Done) 8)
2nd...Sparky..........50cm....7pts
3rd...Shacky...........47cm....5pts

Nice one guys - nearly managed to get out but had to finish of decorating (grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!) and just as I was about to come down for a chat i managed to pull a muscle in my shoulder so I wouldn't have been able to drive anyway. I think I'm getting old - various bits of me are starting to fail :D

I'm hopeful that I'll get out next Sunday but I'll just have to see what the gods of 'carp on Stuart's attempt to go fishing' have in store for me :)

The Boss Lady is good Bren - might be able to get her out fishing if the weather gets warmer although I'm not holding my breath - Wendy is mainly a summer fishing gal now - and who can blame her eh?
