new forum member seeking advice.

Hi Every one, I am new to the forum and apart from a very small amount of fishing when I was a kid, new to sea fishing. It's something I have wanted to take up for a long time, and now the kids are all through university and grown up, I am getting myself some kit together and I am wanting to get started.

What I would really like some help and advice with are locations that would be good from a beginners point of view, both accessing them and not requiring too much specialist equipment. Also, if any one would be kind enough to let me know what bait works best at a particular mark and where to obtain the bait from, that would be really appreciated. At 53 I'm a bot older than the usual beginners, but it's never too late to start something new, and I've wanted to do this for years.

I live in Huddersfield, so where ever is recommended, it's a good drive for me, so any mark that is suitable is fine with me. I've a lot to learn, so here go's!

Thanks Steve, I am a bit concerned that as a beginner I might be in the way or might be interfering with other people's enjoyment as I need a fair bit of advice, but yes, I would love to come to a meet.

The Mersey prom marks at Otterspool and the section from Seacombe to Vale Park are easy to fish on the flood for whiting,dabs and codling...venues section gives you more specific info.....the low water at Perch Rock is also easy to fish and offers plenty of action to all,with lug n mack taking lots of whiting n dabs.All of those marks will give you good sport throughout the winter,without the need to cast very far.
Not sure if this link works (if not register on Holdernessfishing.co.uk) you`ll find lots of marks on the Humber,which offers similar fishing ,on the flood to the Mersey....the beach marks are good,but you`ll need to cast further to optimise your chances.
Don`t worry about being in the way,or asking "daft questions"...we all have to start somewhere.....keep an eye on the fishing sessions section and if you fancy joining us let us know,and we may be able to sort you out with bait too

That's great Kev, thanks very much. The things I need to learn are the elementary things like joining shock line to the main line on the spool, I might need to fins something with diagrams there. This seems a pretty friendly forum to be involved with, I shall try and get to one of the meets if there is a Saturday one.

I know you are a bit inland but it always helps getting out and
meeting people who are fishing and doing the things you are curious
and concerned about,prob a bit expensive to do things like this the way the juice
situation is......makes me realise how lucky we are where we live

Hi Jimmy, yes, with the cost of petrol and diesel being expensive there is always going to be a cost consideration, but after such a long time paying out for kids at university and two weddings, I am going to spend a little on doing something for myself, although I might not be able to fish as much as I would like to. However, the distance makes it a bit of an event to look forward to

Hi Marco We tolerate Millsy and he's been fishing longer than St Peter, (Mind St Peter actually caught fish). So a newcomer to the sport will be a doddle to teach.

Hi Sparky, I will definitely come to a meet, Saturdays are best for myself, so I will keep an eye on dates. I still haven't got the full kit yet, but almost there with that. I am also very keen to try some boat fishing as I love being on the water, but I don't have a boat rig, so would have to hire one.

You're right about the forum being friendly, I've only been on here a few years and have already made a few very good friends through it.

I can't help thinking though that from where you live I would also consider heading for the east coast as Kev suggests. Some easy but good fishing can be had from the likes of the piers at Whitby, its not necessary to cast a long way but still be among the fish. I had my first fish here as a young lad.

The one boat I have experience of out of Liverpool is Discovery. If you go out with Gary he will lend you the gear for the day free of charge and even sort out rigs and bait for you if needed. I'm sure most of the other charter boats will do the same and we are now entering the Cod season.

Ozzie, I am not that far from Oldham, as I work in Wigan I am coming past it every day.

tatch 1, I live in Skelmanthorpe, so just over the hill from you. I am regularly in Holmfirth. I can't make Sundays as it is a busy day for me, but would have loved to come to a club meet a the pub, so thanks for the invite. But if the club ever has a Saturday trip out and you are wanting some one to fill a seat, let me know.

Ian K, one of my very best friends has just bought a superb house on the east coast and he's been at me and my wife to go and stop with them, he wants to go fishing as well, so the east coast is definitely on before long.

Welcome to the forum! I too am relatively wet behind the ears sea fishing wise (and a similar age to you!) and this forum has been a great help to me. For knots I've found Grog's knots (google it) to be a big help.
The boat fishing is good over here too.
