Getting worms was hard going but after an hour or so I had enough blow lug to see me through.
As the flood got going I could see some other anglers setting up in the distance; I think there were 8 of us including me. I imagine they were as optimistic as I was.

However, the fish had other ideas and apart from one gentle take mid-tide, which I failed to hook, my rod tip was static throughout the flood. I tried fishing at various distances with both rolling and breakout leads but to no avail and as high tide beckoned I noticed the beach was now deserted.
Thankfully, about 15 mins before high water and with home in mind, my rod registered a bite just 40 yards out on the plain lead rig and yielded this plump bass which was just in size.

An hour later, a vicious pull down resulted in another smaller bass.

I had a couple more knocks in the next half hour or so but didn’t connect.
An hour into the ebb the sea produced a nice dab for me, at which point I called time and made the walk back across the beach.

The fish may have been slow to show but it was satisfying to find a few in the end.
