Met kev 2 pm quick change and we walked out set up 2 rod's with pulley penals size 2/ 0 baited with frozen lugg and squid wraps looking for a cod. Had 4 whiting and 2 dab and a couple of thornback Ray's with the bigger fish about 5 lb but unfortunately no cod showed up sorry no pics as I thought I had left phone in the car until it rang in one of my many pockets 2 hrs later was a good day all the same and the weather held off with the exception of about 10 minutes about 6 o'clock . There were 3 blokes further to our right they had loads of whiting and a few dabs on 2 hook flapper and mackerel

Good session... do the rays stay in the river all year then?

They seem to be staying longer

From now on then, when i am on the mersey I think i am going to have one rod out for bits and one with a "ray bait" on... last couple of times i ve been using baits suitable for a great white hoping for a codling... I m just going to go fishing from now on...!!

I think the rays stay all year,but hold up in deeper holes e.t.c....usually when they go quiet from the shore,the charters still take plenty. Given the numbers of rays in the Mersey,you`re always likely to see the odd ones feeding.

That s good enough for me...!! One big ish bait on one and two little fellas on the other... let fate take its course.
