Talacre beach...
I plan on going there towards the end of the week to try to catch my first hound.... my (loose!) battle plan is 2hrs down then 2 up... does this sound right?

Hi Trickshot we usually fish 3 down 1 up but you can stay a bit longer no more than 2 though as you’ll struggle to hold bottom.
It’s about a 20-30min walk if your heading towards the yellow bouy but I’ve had some good sessions fishing straight out of the right hand dunes on bigger tides. You’ll see some posts towards the low water mark with a bit of a runoff.
Good luck

First thing is to make sure you travel light, no matter how many times its said you still see people turning up with full seat boxes full of tackle and leads, tripods and bait buckets......... the sand is soft and it is a long walk, scale down to what you need and no more. For a pleasure session I will carry two rods with the reels attached in one hand, one bait bucket with a few leads and rig winders in the other and two sand spikes tucked into my waders and that is it.
In terms of where to fish, as Dyl says the most popular mark is on the corner in front of the yellow buoy however if you do want a shorter walk then literally go straight out past the lighthouse (keeping it on your left hand side) and walk out until you see the broken wooden posts in the sand. You will still catch the hounds there (we had over 35 between two of us there two summers ago) and it is also more prolific for the Bass there than it is down by the yellow buoy.
They will take squid but ideally you want fresh crab and half a crab on the hook is plenty, don't overdue it, good tip is to whip your fresh half over whatever if anything remains on the hook as it will only have been out 10-15 mins and you will either of had a fish or it will have been stripped.
Good luck
