Friday 31st May to Thursday 6th June. Family Trip On The Island

Post by Tom »

Hi my name's Tom I have a YouTube channel and Tiktok called MurphysSeaFishing. We set off on a family holiday to a house in Cymran. Upon arrival the tide was a rising neap. On the ebb Daniel ventures to a small gulley in-between an island and the mainland. We set off with Blufin ragworm. High hopes as we heard a loud splash and saw the surface of two large Bass. I cast in far towards the mainland and I hooked into the first fish of the trip a small school Bass. The tide soon went to low to fish.

Woke up at 6am for the first full day. We set off from Rhoscolyn in the sib. First drop near the islands resulted in a decent Pollock. Followed quickly by a Mackerel and Pollock on Blufins foil feathers size 2/0.

Then we went towards the shore. I baited up some full rag on the five hooked 2/0 foil feathers. Had a bite missed it. Then all of sudden a massive bend in the rod. Drag came screaming off. Resulting into a PB Ballan Wrasse 3LB11OZ.

Then we met my brother Daniel. I gave him some bait and a rig. We started hooking Dogfish. I hooked a large Spidercrab, my biggest yet!

Then we fished an island as James dropped us off there so he could blast the boat. We saw Dolphins in the windy water ahead. James came back and swam underwater and spotted Ballan Wrasse. So we cast in after Daniel got a small Pollock. Then I hook a Ballan Wrasse. Daniel lost a few rigs to snags.

Then we went to the pub for one. A fine one at that a Conwy ale.

Woke up the next day headed to Blufin once again. For some quality ragworm. Then me and Daniel went to Ravens Point. Daniel hooked a few Dogfish as did I. Then he hit gold and caught his very first Spotted Ray.
We had Ballan wrasse, and I had some Pollock and a Mackerel and a Tub Gunard on Bluefin Mackerel.

Then we went back to the holiday home.

We went back to Ravens Point the following morning. Daniel lands a Pollock second cast on a gold Sandeel lure. Then we got the Dogs and Pollock. I managed a double header a tub Gunard and Dogfish. Then I went for Tope and got bitten off. I also had a nice red Ballan Wrasse.

Woke up and felt keen so I fished solo on the Cymran estuary. Had a killer bite and then Daniel came as I casted back in. Result second Bass of the trip. I thought foots sore I'll wait for the tide. So I hit the beers. As the tide came back in I casted in and straight away I had a small Bass. The .the next fish was a decent one at 45cm. So a super close keeper Bass outside the holiday Home.
Then I recast and hit a 36cm Bass and Daniel arrived at the same time. He had two Pollock and a Wrasse on the sib with James before hand.

I set him up beefy circle pennel with a 4/0 bottom Aberdeen hook. He baits up with Blufin ragworm. And wham wham wham resulting into a nice 35cm Flounder.

Weather turned so we went to bed.

The following morning I missed the tide. Got some more Blufin ragworm and waited again. Arrived fairly late this time late flood. Had a really good bite but no hook up. Cast in again slow then all of a sudden a huge bite of a 38cm Flounder. Then later a Silver Eel.

Daniel tried a cast with no luck.

The following morning my last day. Daniel was convinced by me to fish that spot. I came down and said have you had any bites? He replied you're a wizard I've just had one. He let it come back resulting into his PB Flounder!

Great shop Blufin. Will be back

Hi Steve cheers :D I hope all goes well for you Rhoscoyln is a top spot btw. Seals Dolphins Pollock big Wrasse Mackerel and I imagine much more. Easy access straight onto a hard packed beach no rocks on beach.
I do eat the Ballan Wrasse they're actually quite good with lemon juice, loads of meat on them a sticky meat which sounds bad but it's exactly like chicken and bass together with the skin. I'd recommend catching a keeper and adding lemon slices in. Those fillets were massive. The fish was weighed 8hrs out the water so I don't know could have possibly been a 4lbr?
