fishing session at T groyne New Brighton

So after me putting a very last minute fishing session post up yesterday this is the report of how it went.

As said in post I went the local T groyne with brother Graham.
Gear used
1/ big rod with pully rig target fish smooth hound or thornback ray.
1 / 10ft very light up tide rod with small bait casting reel

Baits were soft crab. squid . prawn . sticky black lug

Graham used 2 big rods with up and over rigs
Bait squid . mackerel . soft crab . black lug

As I thought if the hounds were not around the fishing would be very slow as they are the dominate fish at this venue .
But my very light set up made the session . Picture of some of the fish in our session.





Results my big rod got no interest at all baits what ever I tried just came back untouched.

10ft up tide rod and short patt rig with size 4 Aberdeen hooks did well quite a few Dabs and Plaice no other type of fish .

Our Graham stook it out with the hound or ray rigs and baits and was rewarded late on with this lovely little thornback ray.

Its a good thing taking some light gear it can make a bi change to your fishing session.

Like this session if I had taken 2 big rods and stuck it out for smooth hounds or rays then I would of probably had a BLANK.

the light set up if I was fishing a match would of carded a good length as it picked up a lot of flatfish
this is why I use the light gear for so much fishing I was taught and shown what difference they make years ago .
And told that when the likes of Bass fishing a big rod and casting it as far as you can is of no help in catch the fish your after.

WHAT'S your thoughts on this from a pleasure angler or a match angler ???

Nice little session Brian and food for thought.

I tend to get set for the main target species and fish two rods with single baits on each to get a bit of diversity in the water.

I’ve made a mental note to have a more scratching approach to the second rod, certainly paid dividends for you on that outing - have always suspected I’m routinely casting over some of the potential fish with baits too big for em!
