looking under weed /tuning over stones or rocks / digging around structure / creating rings of stones or rocks off the beach for the crab to enter and hide picture of what I mean by this.
I even set out crab traps by using old tyres and did this for over 40 years . But 3 years ago this became far too hard for me on my own / cleaning them out on a regular basis and moving them to a new area so as to rest the old area and let the crab stocks recover / the tyre traps have now been passed on and other anglers are now using them.
I still needed a peeler and softback crab stock for my local fishing targeting Plaice/Smooth hound/small school Bass and Thornback ray
And got that stock by going out during the darkness when the crab come out of their hiding place and are easily seen and collected
But as with everything once 1 person see's this done or hears about it / it's done by lot's of people and that causes a problem because my local area has only small areas that this can be done and it's getting very hard now plus people are just troughing stones and rocks completely away from their original place leaving the crab with no hiding place and moving away .
So I have had a good long hard think of another way of getting the crab stock I need and come up with a way of going back to having crab traps
but this time in a much more environmental way .
By using traps that can be set out and removed this way it's of no imp
act on the beach area or the other people using the beach picture of what am using and going on about.
This will be done by setting them out for a couple of tides soak and then return and take them back home .
this will solve a couple of problems that arise people complaining about them and other people that poach someone else's traps.
I also have other things I set out for the likes of Shrimp/Prawn and Sand eel
