Did a quick pike session again this morning from 05.30 to 08.30hrs and started off with a little shock, at about 06.00hrs struck into a little 1lb jack on a kuusamo professor spoon the 1lb jack then became bait for a 7lb to 10lb pike so hear i was reeling in a jack on a spoon, attached to the tail was a decent pike what was my chance i thought after a small tussle the larger pike let go and i ended up with my 1lb jack with a deep wound to tail fin not the best of mornings for this little chap eh but it did swim away on release
I did go on and catch a 4lb pike on a shakespeare midi s plug
which was followed by another small one
all in all a very enjoyable morning

neil, must plugs that work on pike will work on perch, the perch as a big mouth and won't have any problems swallowing a 5" plug most people fish to small for them which is fine if you are not to botherd of size of catch but if you chasing a perch over 1lb don't be scared to go slightly bigger, Perch don't like resistence so if you are 100% no pike are in the water discard the wire trace and fish with briad straight through, the colour of the plug needs some thought i've personally found the more natural the finish the better the catch rate is, don't discard the following perch pattern ( No 1 chioce ) they are cannibalistic black/silver gold/silver ( better if a touch of red is added ) not really done much on the more garish colours and not forgetting black good colour choice at 1st & last light
Fox do some good miniscules plugs (very good for perch ) shakespeare big and midi s, rapala j9 & j11, abu hi-lows, most rapalas seem to be ok,kwickfish etc etc hope this helps you
First task is to locate the little buggers 1st good luck
