Pole Fishing - 2 rods...?

Is it really viable to fish 2 rods when one of them is a pole ? - on commercials for pleasure angling.... ?

Only thinking of this as I like to fish different methods in a session, especially if thing are going quiet.....

The pole does seem to be a 'busy' method, requiring constant attention and quick reactions to bites......

What do you think ?

When I was into match fishing in a big way I would fish 3 lines at once if I was practicing on a canal.Far side,middle and at my feet.I would try different things until I sussed what was working.It could keep you a bit busy though.

Why not try one rod on a alarm set up for the bigger Carp whilst you fish your Pole for your bread abd butter fish

dont try and fish 2 rods if one of them is a pole, it will be a nightmare if you have a bite on both setups, at least with a rod you have some chance but not a rod/pole pairing

Cheers - some good stuff there lads...

I like the idea of setting the rod up for a biggie - and 'match' fishing for fun with the pole..... Will let you know how it goes.....

After the match finished on sunday I decided to fish on a while because the fishing seemed to be getting better.I had fed a pole line about 10 metres out and also fed some corn against the side of an island were I fished with a straight lead.
Chucked the lead rod out with two bits of corn against the island and carried on catching roach on the pole line until I hooked a tench about 3lb on the caster,while playing this fish the lead rod jumped up and was nearly pulled in by a good fish,I managed to put my foot on the butt to prevent it being dragged in but the fish,probably a carp came off leaving me to land the tench.
Moral of the story is....Use a free spool type reel if you leave a rod to fish for itself

I've done it lots of times where the "specimen" rod is put out with a pike bait on, but only when I'm not expecting more than a few runs on it in a day. I'm not sure it would work well in an overstocked commercial where it's likely to be going off every ten minutes! (With liners if nothing else) If you keep disrupting your pole fishing to attend to the other rod you'll probably end up catching nothing on either of them.

When the bites are shy i always set up a carp rod while pole fishing for that bonus fish.
