I should have been clearer........It was on already built rigs that I have the problem. Being lazy and not replacing or rebuilding the whole rig, I sometime just replace the line to the hook (that's where the problem is) It's not the end of the world with an impact shield as I always build them so they have adjustment.

No, what I mean is use crimps to tie off your snood instead of using knots. That way you can make your hook length any size you want with 100% accuracy

If you're having to replace your snoods because thay are worn, how are your rig main bodies? They are more important from a saftey point of view.

I think the Palmor knot should tie to the exact length of the 1st loop and also the Binimi Twist.

I will have a play with those knots thanks, spud. I was replacing the snood because it had become a bit "curly" having had a few small fishes on and a couple of tangles/twists........................yeah, yeah........I'm a lazy sod

I use a 6" length of 1/2"" alloy rod which is slightly tapered and rounded off at one end
and a 3 ft wood batten with nails at the required lengths - allowing for the knots to tighten.

OK - butt = I wrap the snood length round it instead of my finger, as I tie the knot so that there is a "constant" size of "slippage" as I tighten the knot
Like 1/2 " bar makes the knot 'slide' down to make the snood a 'known' 1 1/2" longer -
1/2" gives you room to make the knot - I tried 1/4" but it's too small to work with comfortably

Agree, this is what I do as well. I hate crimps and don't use them except for tope/conger rigs.

Its only way (well cept for SRT's) to compensate as line stretches during use without weakening the line.

Additionally, if original stop knot becomes too loose, takes 30 seconds to tie a second stop knot to stick behind it, just using whatever 15-20lb line you got in your kit - doesn't need to be a power gum.

edit* Doh, didnt spot that Kev had already suggested that, oh well, reinforcement to the idea.


Finally, if you're hook lengths are getting worn, i'd advise going to 20-30lb hook lengths for winter fishing - absolutely no point using anything lighter when clean ground fishing - much fewer tangles, easier to untangle if you do get a knot and much more abrasion resistant.
