I was the first Aider for WSF matches kev, it is asked for my some insurances

The NWASAC two day open has to have a first aider, liverpool council stipulate it at any large organised event on there land apparently. I won the last match with an eel and a flounder for about a pound and a half. Phil House had an 11 pound cod but was second beacause he couldnt get a flattie!Gutted for him but was happy to take the cash! Personally would prefer to see it in November as there are still flounders there then although not as many. More of a challenge. Eels will be a nuisance in august and cant be retained for weighing in because if they die , could be problems with defra. Impossible to measure them properly too. One for the pirates to think about but good on them for organising an open for all the anglers around the mersey Regards and tight lines. Steve Trish

Surely eels would live for the duration of the match in a bucket of water Chop their head off and they still live for 2 weeks.

They most probably would stay alive in a bucket but they are still not meant to be retained. if any dead ones show up at the weigh in, what happens then? not looking at causing problems but the organisers need to think of a way around . Probably be won with a ray and a flounder anyway. Good luck, Steve Trish.

Mersey Pirates Open
Fishing Otterspool August 21st 12 till 5 pm.
Book on at the Ottesrpool pub 10 till 11 am
15 pounds entry all in, that includes 1,2,3 overall prizes, pools for heaviest flat and round, and entry into the main raffle in aid of McMillan Cancer Support.
Guaranteed MINIMUM prize fund of 500 pounds which will rise with numbers entering. !e, if 63 fish 1st prize will be 252 pounds with all other prizes increasing pro-rata.
Second raffle.
Bigger fish will be weighed on request and released by MPSAC bailif.
SIZE LIMITS
We had planned to use the NWASAC limits but have been advised that the new DEFRA MLS limits apply.
ie. Bass 45, Cod 35, Dab 23, Dogfish 38,Plaice 27, Ray 41, Sole 24, Whiting 27 cms
Eels can not be weighed and therefore are excluded from the competition.
1 rod with 2 hooks, a second rod may be set up but without terminal tackle.
Ensure you bring a bucket to keep fish for the weigh in.

Hi Chris.
This is a committee thing, and as such I can't comment. The original date was chosen to suit the tide but meant fishing till 10:30, we were advised that was too late for the venue and there would be a real security risk. Mersey anglers had already arranged an open on the second date we looked at, thus leaving us with the August date. Since the format is to weigh in both a flat and a round it was agreed by the committee that would probably be better than leaving it till the November set of suitable tides.

Final update.
Numbers are expected to be in the 70 - 80 region which will give a 1st prize of over 280 quid,2nd 168, 3rd 112 with the pools being 105 each.
70 minimum to McMillan plus the proceeds of the raffle. Raffle prizes range from diawa rod bag and rucksack, rods, youths fishing kit,portable dvd player, bottles etc to morphy richards iron with allsorts inbetween.
To add to the fun and make things a bit different it will be an envelope raffle, ie. your ticket is drawn, you pick a sealed envelope, inside the envelope will be written what you have won.
The landlord of the Otterspool pub has offered us the facilities and refreshments will be available. Hopefully it will be a fine day and we will use the beer garden.
If anyone would care to donate something for the raffle bring it along on the day, the more the merrier!

Firstly a big thank you to those who attended.
Fishing was scratchy at best with a number of pin whiting and undersize fish being taken. The eels were even less welcome than normal as they couldn't be weighed.
1st place ( and the only angler to weigh in ) went to John Waugh.
The round and flat fish pools were added to second and third place prizes and paid out to the first 3 in each.
