float fishing

float fishing
need help!!! i was fishing on canal at stoke and was using rod and reel but i couldnt get the float to sit still kept trotting down the canal!! i tried going overdepth with a couple of shot on the bottom but nothing would keep it still!! any ideas???

Best way to combat the pull on that part of the canal is to use a small float link leger set up as shown here.

It is not always a good thing to have the bait sitting still.The fish are used to having food moving in the direction of the flow.They are more likely to be suspicious of a still bait.

On the Shroppy it is usually flow caused by the locks opening, but as I've said elsewhere don't worry too much about trying to hold the float in one place.Shaun1118 wrote:depends wether it is surface tow caused by the wind or the water is actually flowingLet me know which one it is

Kev, that is exactly why I would use the pole. Anyway, I didnt know people still used waggler rods. I thought you would be in Wales Kev, or has the missus finally worn you down
