The Fishermans Net

At last we got out on a boat for the first weekend in many the weather was good with light winds.

Eleven of us met at Rhyl to board warrior for a twelve hour wrecking trip.

The plan for the day was to stop a few mile out for mackeral and then on to the first of a couple of wrecks.The trip started great with plent of mackeral coming aboard its always nice to get a few fish in early on

two hours in to the trip all of us had been fed by webmaster who had aquired around two hundred chicken wings. We arrived at the first wreck unfortunaltey the fishing was slow and after a few drifts skipper alan decided to try another nearby wreck it was a little better and a few small pollock and pouting where caught.

Alan wanted better and decided to go further out to another wreck as we arrived we could see the hills of wales disappearing into the distance it was a long way out and we where almost with in sight of the Isle of man

Spirits were high as we made our first drift and it proved to be a success as around 6 pollock were caught we continued making drifts over the wreck as the hours past away.
plenty of fish in the 3-4lb range were being caught and although red tailed jelly worms seemed to be doing best as our confidence grew all manor of different jellies were sent down in the search of fish some very strange looking

steve hollywood took the best pollock of the day at 4lb 6oz wsfa record
Ken the chef who had managed to survive the few days earlier fishing with a few wsfa lads on rock marks on anglesey took a 3lb 4oz coalie wsfa record.

karl killbride took the best pouting 1lb 13oz not quite a record though:lol: .


as the tide dropped we set anchor to try for a few more spiecies and this proved to be a great success.





steve jh was first in to the fish with a tope of around 12lb he was very happy From then on plenty of fish were coming a board red and grey gurnard ,pouting, pollock,mackeral,doggies and bullhuss.

mic mac left his rod to use to little boys room and returned to find he had a fish showning interest. He kept quiet and began to reel in and was rewarded with a cod of nearly 9 lb wsfa record.




a notable fish loss was one for karl k he had a decent fish on but as it neared the boat it decided to set off on a run under the boat and took with it the lines of several others. Unfortunatley in the tangle the fish was lost but a few minutes later he was in to another good fish and a decent tope was boarded.



steve jh late in the day took a bullhuss of 5lb 5oz wsfa record and with that we set off for home



It was a great day and all felt the trip had been well worth it we look forward now to the next one

It was good to get out at last, and it was good to see all rods on the boat catch fish, as Lol has said most fish over the wrecks were taken on the Power Bait stuff, we travelled some 44 miles off shore to the wreck and we were closer to the Isle of Man then to Rhyl, Alan warned us that if a storm blew up the safest port would be Douglas !!

A good day was had by all and thanks to Alan for again putting us on the fish.

As Lol and Chris and my Catch Report agree, it was a good day out - thanks again, Lol, for your help while we were wrecking; it was only my second attempt.
My brother-in-law Damian asked me to pass on his thanks for the enjoyable company and the helpful advice (first wrecking trip), and extra thanks to MickMac for the codhead which Damo took home to amuse his eldest!
8year-old Lewis opened the fridge on Monday morning to find the cod staring at him, and I suspect he was made up. 6yo Gemma wouldn't get too close, but 5yo Adam happily put his fingers in its mouth... "Oh, dem's sharp!"

Ah it all becomes a tad clearer, i'm taking the nice tasty cod fillets, and was wondering why some weirdo was wanting the head good to see it provided a bit of entertainment. Pity we didn't get a picture of LOL's tope first time i've seen someone need a butt pad to bring up a doggie
