Match Report: 7th round of N.W.A.S.A.C. P. M.s Championship

Post by heather »

Match Report: 7th Round of N.W.A.S.A.C. Personal Members Championship, Bromborough, Wirral, Sun 19.8.12 (27 rods).

Flounders, eels and small whiting were the main species on offer on a murky summer day at this disused wharf several miles up the Mersey Estuary. Unusually for the venue, the downriver lower and middle pegs outfished the high numbers.
In a measure and release match such as this, eels count better than flounders and Pete Corker had five of them out of his fourteen fish total for the win from Zone B.
John Waugh won Zone A for runner-up place and landed the best flounder of the day at 42cms. Series leader, driving instructor Carl Edwards’ relatively low position in the results (18th) put a dent in his championship points but he still heads the table with 3 matches left.
Rick Lawson’s bass of 52 cms, landed despite a tangle with an adjacent competitor early in the match, easily took the roundfish pool.

Results (scored in continental style from 2 zones):
1. Peter Corker (Bagillt), 441 cms, 6 whiting, 5 eels, 3 flounders.
2. John Waugh (Wallasey), 342 cms, 4 flounders, 4 eels, 2 whiting.
3. Ian Griffiths (Eastham), 208 cms, 5 whiting, 2 flounders, 1 eel.
4. Joe McCarthy (Walton), 338 cms, 7 flounder, 2 eels, 1 whiting.
5. Phil Copland (Tranmere), 200 cms, 3 flounders, 3 whiting, 1 eel.
6. Michael Brookes (Birkenhead), 275 cms, 3 eels, 3 flounders, 1 whiting.

Flatfish Pool: J. Waugh, flounder, 42 cms.
Roundfish Pool: Rick Lawson (Buckley), bass 52 cms.

Series after seven rounds:
1. Carl Edwards (Bootle), 134 cms.
2. J. Waugh, 127.
3. J. McCarthy, 125.
4. John S. Williams (Prenton), 120,
5. Joe Perry (Litherland), 111.
6. Les Trish (Crosby) & I. Griffiths, both 109.

Pairs Championship: Waugh/ Edwards, 261 points.
