The Fishermans Net

Set off with Stephen Atkinson to meet the cod hunting crew in search for a Haddock or a Codling or big whiting. All was achieved tonight between the group although not the size we were hoping for. As we arrived the sea was flat calm with waves coming in on the left side of the beach which BigKev, Fishmaniac and Jimmytheblue ventured. Me and Ste chose the right side as it looked like you could get further out on the beach but less waves. I got a Dab first cast in the sun on ragworm. Then when the darkness came the big Whiting came out to play I had a 37cm, 35cm and two 33cms a 29cm and a good few mid twenties. Kev had a Haddock then I had a plump stubby 30cm Codling. Sometime around then Jimmytheblue had a cracking 39cm Whiting. Last casts both rods produced fish a 25cm Dab and a 33cm whiting. Targets achieved. Only a handful out the 30 odd anglers had a singular Haddock or Codling. Northeast Codling on the first session there, made up

Well in lads , atleast you all caught fish , it's rather exiting fishing marks that you know have or will produce a quality specimen

It was a pleasant night. (Other than the weed )

Don`t know what`s going on with the weed lately,but i`ll be back over in Jan at North Withernsea for a double out of that big gulley....crackin beach

Reports from aldborough on Saturday were much the same as our session.
Seems we didn't miss anything with the change of venue. (Apart from getting covered in mud climbing the cliff )

We were behind a police car and passed another sitting off the side....

Those guys must have the easiest job on the force.

Looks like you all had a busy session with Tings and flats. I was going to go tomorrow , but the reports have been so dire that I cannot gather the enthusiasm at the moment.
I am in contact and mates with a couple of very good anglers who fish regularly from Spurn to Atwick,as they live reasonably local , they themselves are “ in the loop” as to where and when the cod show .

Sadly atm things are very sparse , the odd one from south of the river and thats about it.It seems to be bait wasted mostly unless you like whitings .

I am doing an uptiding session soon at Whitby , so that will help, and also a couple of days up at Arnside after bin lid flounder .

Hopefully things will improve after Christmas , but with very little showing atm I dont hold out much hope for a spring run in a couple of Months .

I have fished the Holderness since the late 70’s there have been good and bad years but the in last ten things have really gone downhill.
Nice to see a few haddocks showing though!

Keeping an eye on the weather etc for a trip myself but it looks like an after christmas job now.
