The Fishermans Net

Round 6 saw us at Seaforth on a saturday night 17 anglers turned up for this one .
We met up in the marine car park I arrived just after 2pm to find Rob and Ross already there soon the others started arriving and everyone booked on the weather started to take a turn for the worst and it started raining ,but fortunately it stopped before we walked off .
Everyone left the car park and we all met up at the top of the beach once everyone assembled we all walked down the beach together. We all got to our chosen spots spread out from just before the rocks the all the way up the beach soon enough it was 4.30 and all in was called . The dreaded mud was present right up the length of the beach but not to bad and after about an hour the mud gave way to solid mud free sand .
It was'nt long before fish started to hit the beach with a few small whiting and dabs and soon enough a few anglers had a flat and round carded but only small whiting and dabs .
After a couple of hours reports came in that an elusive cod had been caught to the far left but mainly small whiting and dabs for everyone else .
While casting in I noticed something in the water and on closer inspection it was a dead fish which turned out to be a very big GHOST CARP looked like about 10lb in weight probably washed out of someones pond in the recent flooding .
I had only had a whiting but was determined to keep trying for a codling and with only 30 miniutes to go tap tap I had a fish on this felt a little better and on the retreive I could feel the nodding of the fish it felt like a codling when it hit the beach It was target acheived and looked a good one and it measured 50 cm 3lb1oz so quick switch of rigs with 20 mins to try and find a dab.
soon enough it was 8.30 and all out was called and we all made our way back to the car park everyone walking back in small groups and pairs as asked to for safet reasons .
We all got back to the car park and while I checked the cards everyone helped themselves to a hot drink once all cards were in (thanks for dyl rounding them all up for me) the results were ready .
1st place went to John Waugh who had a 46cm codling and a 25cm dab to go with it ,
2nd went to Dale Edwards who had a 33cm whiting and a 26cm dab
3rd was split between Jordan Roberts and Dave Radclife who both had a whiting and a dab with jordan getting the biggest whiting of the night of 35cm and Dave getting the biggest dab of the night of 28cm.
Biggest fish went to myself with a 50cm codling (couldnt find a dab)
the extra pool this week was for smallest fish this was split between Dave Radclife,Dale Edwards and Mike bishton who all had a fish of 18cm.
All in all it was a great night with a seteady flow of fish and the weather was kind and even the mud wasnt to bad our next match is in 2 weeks time at seacombe.

Great match /report Mark...John is certainly hard to beat on the Mersey

plenty fish on the night personally stuck it out for a ray strangely none about got the dab snatcher rig out last half hour for the combo .well done johnny and mark on the cod . gives us all hope

I had a nightmare cutting a piece out of my index finger pad when cutting the tail off a joey mackerel. Bled for the whole match and couldn't really fish properly.

If I blank at the next match I'll use the same excuse

Another comprehensive report thanks Mark. Sorry I missed this one as I got booked out to visit Colwyn Bay looking at houses for sale.
Well done to all who fished a difficult venue and chalked up the required flat and round.
Good to see a couple of coddos come out hope the chips were up to scratch
