Caldy 4 Sessions In A Week

Caldy session 1, 11th March with Darren Godfrey.
I was the first to catch on a smooth bomb retrieving slowly I managed to snare a small Flounder.
Darren soon had a better bite resulting a very wide 36cm Flounder.
Then Darren had a smaller Flounder.
Went at range he did for a Plaice and it payed off nearly twice believe it or not he ended up losing a 2lbr!
He landed a 36cm Plaice nice fish. Then hooked and brought in right to the rocks but it got stuck in the rocks so I climbed down to get it. When i got to I was in awe of such a decent March Plaice for Caldy. Any way I gently grabbed the snood and it spat the hook and slabbed on to a shallow watered rock thinking I can get this fish I was prepared to take my shoes off but it slowly swam away.
A delicious bangers and mash tea perfect after a calm windfree fishing session.
Darrens first session there he's impressed. My local mark too. Best on big tides but in summer waders can produce many Bass on gentle lobs with fresh worm of any kind.
Session 2, 12th March with Rob Evans.
A totally different tide means different fishing for most species any how I managed to strike lucky and it was no Flatfish as hoped for but better a Bass!
A slow start with no major bites just little rattles every hour or so was unusual considering how good Darren was fishing. But the wind was present and causing a much different sea.
Chris Lee came down to say hello and how we were getting on. As soon as he had his coffee and sandwiches my rod started thrashing I thought it was me tangled up on it some how but I did a quick check and nope it was a decent fish biting. I really thought it was a big Plaice as the rod sat there with pressure on the tip not doing anything after the major whacks. I lifted into a heavy weight then it started to fight back. I got the fish upto the top and I yelled it's a Bass!
Landed and hooked on the bottom snood on a size 4 fresh black lug.
What a day, first Bass of the year.
Caldy session 3, March 13th with Fairy Cod Mother Kiera Tuck.
Well another different tide and weather completley. In fact the wildest waves I've seen there yet, it was mental. But I some how landed my most fish in a session at Caldy this year so far.
Kiera setup and I recommended casting near the rock groin as that's where fish usually seem to be. She did get bites but I think you're better off with bait holder hooks there the ones with a turned in hookpoint. I setup one rod also and then we thought screw it we will fish two each. Which payed off as my first cast I caught a very deformed Flounder what a fish.
Then I recast I had a double header much later on near to the high tide mark. Waves were hitting us and crashing up the rocks it was a bizzare experience, and Merv Pryce came down and said hello good to see him. He's landed a Caldy Sole which is very difficult.
I said to Kiera as the tide was nearly out I've got as bite and I sure did, I was reeling in a Kiera said theres no fish on there and I said there is is it a Whiting? Then it came in closer I knew it was a small Bass
My second of the year. She'd never seen one in person before.
So that was good.
I would like her to catch at Caldy she's been twice now with just a bite to show for it. Maybe third time lucky!
Session 4, March 15th with Colin.
I arrived at Caldy a bit late but still hoping to get a spot. Colin was to my left on the main square fishing one rod. It was the first time I'd seen Colin for a good few months. I cast in and retrieved my 3rd Bass of the year within 10minutes. Then I said would you mind if i fish one to the left but right of him. Then I caught another Bass my fourth of the year so far. Colin unfortunatley just got bites, it can be like that at Caldy you can get the bite of your life and no fish to show for it.

Nice to see the small school bass .
Caldy is so uncomfortable to fish since they put the extra rocks down on the top level.We used it in the past as a summer league venue.
