The Fishermans Net

I met up with Groundbait Phil at 6am at the Prestatyn boat club for what promised to be an exciting day on the water.An easy launch saw us heading out towards the end of the wind farm.A couple of drifts saw us fill the bait bucket with mackeral,including one that weighed 1.5lbs.We anchored up and did a bit of general fishing.It was dabs and tub gurnard nearly every chuck.Phil latched on to this excellent specimen.


The rubby dubby bag was ripped off by a large tope so we new it was time to fish for them seriously.We both lost good tope,with one biting through my 80lb steel trace as though it was cotton.I nearly had my spinning rod pulled out of my hands by a tope that hit a mackeral taken on my feather rig.Phil then hit into a fish which tail-walked like a swordfish 40 yards from the boat.
After a fantastic fight it was brought on to the back of the boat.carefully unhooked,weighed at 41lb and returned alive,swimming off strongly into the briney depths.The following photo's show blood around the topes mouth,but this was only from the hook.So if you were thinking of saying anything.....Don't.

well in there steve lad nearly encountered the same meself on bren's boat sunday, but the bitch had other idea's 150lb trace looked like it had gone through a shreader

Cant condone neckin tope's la....theres women for that kind of thing.

nice fish phil dont like using wire myself for my tope gives it that chance of escape but hey everyone to there own (no pun intended there m8) how you get on with your scaffold

Now I couldn't be putting up scafold with weather like we had over the weekend could I? I will start on the motor next week but I'd rather be fishing m8.

I hear waht you say about thin wire traces but it was all we had and to be honest the tope were eating them up and spitting them out. I found a place that does heavy mono rigs at a good price so have ordered a few.
