My daughter has been asking to go on the boat for ages and I had promised to take her out for an hour the next time I was looking after her. The wife was off on a shopping orgy, so I took her and the boat to Prestatyn on Saturday afternoon. The forecast was fine but when we got there the sea was very lumpy with white caps and trofs of 3-4 feet. I tried to talk her out of it explaining it would be really hard to fish but she was having none of it. We had come to go fishing, so fishing is what we were going to do! The Lads in the club house took bets on how long we would be out with five minutes being the shortest and 20 minutes being the longest. There were three boats lined up in the car park, evidence of already abandoned trips and whilst I was confident it was safe I new it would not be very comfortable! A m8 came along for safety’s sake and we did an ultra fast launch in between the smaller wave cycle. My biggest worry was that it would freak my 7 year old out or make her sick and put her off fishing for life as I was put off sailing, but that's a different story!
The boat rocked, pitched and generally made fishing very difficult, we were only 500 meters from the shore and no were near my usual marks. I was convinced we would go back empty handed and then Eleanor said I have caught a fish. No I said the line is dragging the bottom,
NO she said I have caught a fish. She brings the line up and there was a lovely Mackerel asking to be taken back for tea. We continued fishing but I could not keep up with her and I blanked and was forced to concede the day to my 7 year old daughter! We returned triumphantly after an hour and a half on the water and a promise of a rematch
