as a lot of you know im new to all this after not fishing for 7 years...

i went to my local angling shop and he gave me some swivels with clips on the other side, and some beads with a line hole, and also something which you can slide up and down your line to which you attach your weight....

i kinda guess how i could use the swivel clip things, but what are the beads for and how do i use the sliding weight thingy???

Erm . . . you start looking around this site - like here might be a good start - and a tackle shop NEAR the sea might be another good place to start

LOL i know but when you live at st helens its hard to just pop out to your seaside tackle shop :P

Forget sliding leads when you are beachcasting, dangerous unless you know exactly how to set it up. Go out and buy a few ready made "two hook flapper" rigs and a few 4oz and 6oz leads. That will do for most of your fishing round here.

well thats what i thought, but they was only something like a pound so bought them anyway.....

ive got a few abu garcier 4oz weights, 2 x 4oz grapples, 2 x 5oz grapples, ive bought 2 sets of feathers, got myself 2 sexts of 2 different rigs as well.... now ive got the rigs though i'll try and make my own following the same lengths and stuff. got something like a mile of line when i bought my rod combo and also some shock leader so plenty of line to make the rigs

Don't worry about precise lengths too much. The main aim of the rigs is just not to tangle up, they don't affect your catches much. If you tied a foot of line to the loop on your lead you'd still catch flatties! You won't find much use for the feathers round here, the mackerel only come within casting range about twice a year

Well i got the feathers just for if i run out of bait at any point, least ive got a back up then.......

i'll probably just end up buying the rigs as theyre only a couple of quid

Greys make some good end tackle and you will pick them up from as little as £1.35 each, best way is indeed to purchase some rigs and then see how they have been made, the learning zone also has good diagrams that have taken hours to complete so that area should also give you some good info.
