Round 3 saw us at Vale Park on what started as a bright and calm day with sunshine and blue skies. The remembrance service at the bottom of Magazine lane was really well attended and hundreds of people fell silent at 11:00 to remember all of the people who have given their lives for their country.
As the crowds dispersed everyone got set up and got ready to go. The tide took a little longer than usual to go out so it ended up being a 13:30 start and everyone got out onto the bank and spread out in the hope of plenty of action......................
The Codling normally show in the first hour here however they were conspicuous by their absence and from 18 rods there was only one person who managed to find one and that person was Mark Davies who took this 41cm fish.....................
The first hour was scratchy with fish few and far between with single Dabs and Whiting getting caught but no fish present in great numbers. The tide was now ebbing like an absolute train and a cast of any more than 80 yards was seeing people struggling to hold bottom. Thankfully as the tide eased off the fish then came on the feed, the majority being pin Whiting with the odd better Whiting thrown in and Dabs were also plentiful again with the odd better fish thrown in.
It was going to come down to anyone finding something a little bit better and that is how it proved. Firstly, Gary Swift set a marker for the flat fish with this nice Plaice of 34cm...................
Before Sean Dowd quickly then bettered it with this nice Flounder of 36cm........................
Sean managed to find a decent Whiting for the day of 30cm to go with it to set the marker to beat. The chasing pack were made up of Gary Swift who found a Whiting to go with his Plaice, whilst Scott Booty and Ste Atkinson both had the two best Whiting Dab combo's on the day to mean it would be a three way tie for third place. It was however to be Mark Davies' day as he found a Dab to go with his Codling and give himself the win.
Overall a bit of a strange match as it felt like it fished quite hard yet 14 from 18 anglers managed to get the combo on their card and there were plenty of fish around from 90 minutes before low. We now move on to round 4.

I got a bit excited on my last cast thinking I might have been reeling a lonely dog fish in to get me over the 70cm... only to see a small flatty hooked through its side being dragged across the beach... he went back safe for next time!
