I reached the shore just as the tide started to flood and quickly pumped myself sufficient blow and blacks for the session. The sea conditions looked promising and the onshore breeze was a tad stronger than the 10mph forecast which was ideal.

I had nothing on the first cast but from then on it was non stop action and by the end of the session I had to rely on my phone to give me a tally on total numbers and species.

By now the tide had topped out and was about to start the ebb. Most of the fish had been taken a little further out but I decided to drop the bait on my second rod right in the middle of the deep gulley in front of me to see what was about. The fish let me have a breather for about half an hour but then a strong take on the gulley rod got me back in business.
Straight away I could feel this one was a better fish - it was pulling strongly and put a really good bend in my bass rod. I took my time and slowly played it closer to the shore praying that this would be the big bass I crave. It wasn’t but I was pleased nevertheless as I eased a decent hound just shy of 7lb on to the beach estimated at around 100 cm in length.

I was about to unhook and return it when I noticed my second rod had slack lined so quickly reeled it in to find another little tope on the end.
A quick photo of the pair together and then both were back in the drink swimming happily out to sea.

After this I missed a couple more bites whilst baiting up one rod or the other and to be honest with the action being so frenzied I might have been better dropping to one and giving it 100% of my attention but I find it hard not to be greedy and try to double my chances.
Half an hour later and an hour or so into the ebb I took my last fish of the night. Another bass.

Optimistically I stuck it out until about 23.45 but by this stage the fish had stopped playing and I decided to call it a day. All the fish were returned to whence they came and, although some were not far off, none of the bass made the 42cm rule.
This was almost certainly my most frantic session at this venue which I would have to say is highly unusual and a stark contrast to what is usually a couple of fish or a blank. Right place right time I suppose. Lucky me
