Back on the mersey

After struggling recently with river trout fishing due to lack of water and reading about how well the mersey is fishing it was time to dust off the rods. I haven't been out since the christmas lockdown and had bait in the freezer from winter sessions. Headed to just downstream of the Britannia Inn around 3hrs from high. All very slow, but had a great slow pull around 1.5hrs in and I could tell it was a good fish. After a good fight and beaching her on the steps, I managed this lovely thornback that must have been around the 10lb mark https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=102 ... 7408445020. I managed another smaller ray on highwater and that was it. Nice to be back and I might have a go for the hounds considering the trout fishing shows no sign of improving.

Well done on the rays - looks like you are on the right option there - rays are bigger than trout mostly any way ! Did they take fish / squid

Well I have had stocked rainbows to 15lb, but they are pets!! Flyfishing for mackies and pollock is really fun though .Used bluey/squid wrap on 4/0 hook.
