Round 1 Result,Mersey Rd,Otterspool

19 anglers lined the prom at Otterspool for the start of this winter`s league,in blustery conditions with the odd squally shower. Whiting were the first fish to show and most of the field had something on their cards in the first hour,leaving them to find another species for the rest of the day. Dave Roberts was first to do so by taking a dog...most of us were targeting rays,which were elusive until later in the tide when a few came on the feed. Jeff White took one of 73cm (nose to tail) to move in to the lead but was soon overtaken when Chris James landed a nice 88cm strap conger @6lb,which would go on to take the longest fish pool...rays were also landed by 2nd placed Jimmy Redfern (79cm) and 3rd placed Dale Edwards (74cm)...Jimmy Redfern,Dylan Kensall and Mike Bishton also landed dogs ....a couple of rays were dropped as they were pulled up the wall,notably Ste Atkinson who had a good fish on (drop net on the xmas list). Good to meet up with the old hands and some new faces...hopefully we`ll see you on the beach at Perch Rock next Sunday for Round 2,where we revert to the flat n round format.

an enjoyable match today fished much better than expected with some quality fish and 5 species turning up .
im on holiday next week so will be missing perch .hope it fishes as good.

Good day out first time at otterspool and nice to meet some of the lads off the site
Started off with a few double headers of whiting best going 33cm
Changed rigs 1 hr b4 high to a up n over pennel hoping for a ray 10 minutes later rod arched and showed a typical ray bite left for about a minute or 2 then just lifted into it after a good scrap s nice 79 cm tback was on the prom 15 minutes later a nice 75cm was also landed last cast a dog made a appearance all fish wer caught on frozen black Sandeel Bluey squid

well never expected to need over 1 metre for the top spots, but some cracking fish taken

commiserations must go to steve for losing a stonking ray at the wall
