Fished the low at Perch Rock last night.

Very windy and loads of weed to start but calmed down about 30 mins before low water.

First outing of my new rod and reel. Couple of light casts to bed the line in, then first proper cast the shockleader knot failed, and having not brought any other shockleader with me, had to switch to my old reel

New rod casts wonderfully though couldn't believe the distance I was getting, can't wait to try it with me new reel also.

Was fishing a 3/0 pulley rig with a whole squid threaded up the hook with a baiting needle then secured with bait elastic. Nothing going on fish wise unfortunately, was about to cast out for the last time before calling it a night when the shockleader knot failed on that reel also so that put an end to that.

I had a couple of short lobs with the other reel on my other rod with lug on a 2 hook flapper, but nothing doing on that one either.

Ended up with a blank (I've not caught anything in the 4 sessions I've had since getting back into sea fishing ) But feel like I'm making progress, especially in my casting. Just need to sort out these shockleader knots.

get out with others that will help you and give you more confidence .
Could just be that the day's and time's you have fished the fish have just not been interested
A least when fishing with others while you are learning
if you struggle to catch and other's are catching it's something you can actually address and correct.

As for your shock leader knots its obviously the way you are tying them even the worst type of leader knot will hold through a cast if tied correctly

I agree with Brian.
To have 1 leader knot fail is bad. To have 2 fail in one session would suggest there's an issue with the way they're being tied. Maybe you're trimming your tag ends too short? Not enough turns on the knot?
What type of knot do you use?
