Round 5 result and report

Post by mark davies »

Well round 5 saw us back at Otterspool this time we were at Mersey Rd end .
I arrived at 9am to find a few all ready there so i sorted my gear out and got the kitchen set up in the car for later .
By 10am everyone had booked on so we set off to our chosen spots a few went left and the rest went right .
It was a little windy on the prom but not to bad and the sun was shining so we all got set up and all in was called at 10.30 .
In hope for an early cod on the flood various cod baits and rigs were launched out ,it was'nt long before a few whiting started coming over the rails but no codling . As time went by hopes of a codling were starting to fade but the whiting were getting better there were quite a few whiting over 30 cm being caught with Mike bishton having 2 of 32cm looked to be leading then I had one of 34cm but needed another to go with it but was leading longest fish then with an hour to go a few people were crowed round a peg further down so i went for a walk to see who had caught what thinking maybe a codling .
Unfortunatly not a cod but a very nice 37cm whiting weighing in at 1lb 3oz falling to Stuart Davies so he took the lead in the longest fish pool but what could he get to go with it ? well the match soon came to an end and all in was called so back to the car park for the results .
Got back to the car first job switch the stoves on for the Hot Dogs and Onions while they were cooking the cards came in and the results worked out just in time as the hot dogs were ready and the onions had'nt burnt so everyone had their Hot Dogs and soup then the presentation began.
result
1st went to Stuart Davies who found a 31cm whiting to go with his 37cm to give him a winning total of 68cm £66
2nd place went to Rod Turner and Mark Davies who both had a 33cm and a 34cm whiting for a total of 67cm £22 each
3rd went to new comer to the group John Waugh who had 2 whiting for 66cm £22
5th Dave Roberts and Merieg Darley 65cm
7th Mike Bishton with 64cm
8th Jordan Robberts and Richie fisher 63cm
10th Dylan Kensal with 62cm

Biggest fish went to Stuart Davies with his 37cm whiting £21
the extra pool this week was for the biggest flat fish landed and was won by John Waugh with a 29cm Flounder £21 the only flat fish caught on the day, so no codling but overhalf of anglers carding 2 whiting over 30cm.

So with all that done on to Dale Edwards favourite part of the day SECRET SANTA so everyones card went into a bag and i pulled them out one by one there were some interesting shapes wrapped up it was all going well untill Merieg went to the table and chose a half pack of anti bacterial wipes that were left on the table people had used to wipe their hands so we infromed him it was'nt one of the choices so he chose one of the others left on the table .

Overall it was a great day with some great banter and very close results at the end. Thanks to Dave for sorting the worms and for bringing the table and setting up the secret santa wit help from a couple of elves and to Jonny from the shack who brought frozen bait also a few bits for some .
So I will take this opertunity to wish you all a VERY MERRY XMAS AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.

Hope to see you at our first match back after xmas at Seaforth beach on SATURDAY 13th January fishing 16.30 till 20.30

Well done Stu,that`s a nice whiting...pity the cod are non-existent this winter....another good show Mark.....with a tie for 2nd,should the pot for 2nd and 3rd not be shared by yourself and Rob and John Waugh placed 4th and out of the money
winter fishing sucks

Great report again thanks Mark, and hot dog was very welcome.
As for the wipes, perhaps I should have gone to specsavers  but they were preferable to the box of hospital urine bottles pictured above! Which pistaker brought those??
Stuarts 37cm whiting was duly filleted and well appreciated with a few jockeys whips when I got home and all the others went into my freezer,so all in all another grand day out.
Happy new year to all see you at the next match.
