Fished the low water up at New Brighton for the Plaice ?.

As normal with this venue small neap tides just don't get the Plaice feeding in the same way as the big tides.

I haven't got a clue what the Plaice do on the small tides ???? not sure if they just take that much longer traveling down the channel .
Or they just stay out on the far side of the old rock channel and feed in and out of the sand hollows along the rock channel bank.
Or weather they just feed in the middle of the channel which has more of a tidal movement .

I tried moving all over and fished the tide right back to the wall and left 1 hour before high

I had the only Plaice of the session 1.5 hours before high a nice well conditioned 41cm Plaice weighed in at 1lb.10oz.

Next week gives me plenty of options with the start of the bigger spring tides. Black lug collecting / Talacre / Thornback ray fishing / or Rock Channel

I will see closer to the time.

Good to get out and a good sized plaice for your efforts. Think it’s hard to say with any certainty what the plaice are doing on the small tides but if results suggest bigger tides fish better maybe they do stay where tidal movement is stronger . Always good to suss these patterns out even thought we don’t always know the reasons behind them

Yes I have been trying for years to work out why the plaice fishing at this venue is so night and day? .

The bigger tides you have a visual and our able if you know the area well ? To fish at catchment points where the channel narrow up ?
This means that the plaice shoals will have to bunch up to pass through theses points ? Hence making the fishing at certain times quick and fast with plenty of fish.
All so on the bigger tides the Plaice fishing is mostly consistent meaning you are catching fish at a regular interval.

But then you have the small tides where the beach layout is exactly the same apart from the push of the tide but the Plaice just don't react in the same way as they do over the bigger tides.

This is why I keep trying to find out what or why the behave different. / as the beach and tide and fishing times are all the same
Maybe I will never find out why the tide size make so much difference .

The Plaice are the only fish I target around the Wirral area that I have no alternative as regards fish for / Its big tides or nothing. I can target them from the Rock Channel Bank BUT am back in the same suituation only big tides . I don't do high water prom fishing so that also limits me.

JUST a foot note when I do fish the smaller tide I fish them right back from low up to high I will normally get the odd few fish but are the better size one's

Looking forward to end of next week as the big spring tides offer me more choice for fishing plus Ill be out bait collecting ?
Black lug / Rag worm / Razor / and hard back crab am not using any peeler crab this year ? want to see if I can make the most of fishing with small hard back crab / For 2 reasons a lot less work collecting them and easier to keep a fresh stock / various ways of mounting them on a hook so I will just experiment with that as I go .

Couple of us have been talking about Talacre ? could be on the cards for Saturday if winds are ok.

As for the hardback crab just see how that goes ? nearly every fish I have taken for the table has had small hardback crab in its stomach

Nice catches as of late Brian.

I saw a guy use 20p size hardbacks x2 on a pennel and he caught fish to 8lb on the rock channel in June one year

Never underestimate the softback crab at night you can find yourself filling a third of a bucket with them over a period of 30mins fast 50mins avg and 1hr slow. But your fishing on avg 3 and a half hours to 4 so it's pretty time effective. These are'nt big softbacks I'm on about either there about the size of a 50p to £2 coin. No need for massive baits for hounds. I'll add a pic below to show you what I mean.



As you can see it's a small softback crab wrapped up in a cilinder shape as I always do for hounds
