Prestatyn low water sessions

After only catching the odd flounder but mostly just hauling in weed,decided to move to the shallower end of the beach towards Rhyl ,not as easy to fish as the tide comes in quicker but can fish well,had 3 sessions , 90 minutes down 2 back up,fresh black and yellowtails,loop rigs and 3 hook flapper, 2 rods with a third rigged and baited to change over.This helps with the weed which can waste a lot of time to ping off the line .1/0 hooks baited b with either half a black,or whole yellowtail.Friday night,had 2 dogs,6 flounder,dab and a whiting. Monday a m,a moderate N W,heavy sea first cast,a 45cm bass and flounder,another bass of 43 cm an hour after low,ended up,with 10 flounder most a good size.All the fish caught on the flapper rig ,probably casting no more than 60 mts into the head wind.Tuesday a m N W wind Same spot sea a little rougher,casting the same distance same rigs,but fished the loop rig as a flapper,closer in ,nothing so the last cast clipped the rig up and chucked it as far as I could resulting in a blank saving bass of 54 cm.I have got a set of digital scales so as well as measuring my fish,I will weigh them to compare to the length to weight chart used by the Bass society.The 45cm weighed 2 lb 5 oz the 54 cm. 3lb 7oz. That’s if I catch anymore Bass,on this visit.

Thought you might have been back down Talacre for a few sessions on the short walk?

Thx Dyl,re Talacre Probably give it a go later this week,still think there’s too much sediment in the water for the bass to come in.plus the hounds seem to dominate that area now.I know they’re fun to catch but at the end of the day the day they’re only doggies on steroids.

I’d say well in Brian. You picked up a few silvers in favourable conditions which is more than I have managed recently. I have only fished the Barkby beach at Prestatyn and had a couple of decent sessions there. As you know I tend to fish local to Liverpool in the main but I have noticed that it takes a lot less wind to kick up a decent surf at Prestatyn.

Thx Simon,true it doesn’t take too strong a breeze to put a chop on the water.The problem with Barkby at the moment is because it’s at the end of the main channel of the Dee,there’s that much silt washed out into the river because of the wet spring the waves churn up too much sediment ,the water is still a horrible brown colour.I moved about a mile further along away from the channel,and noticed a definite difference in the water clarity.
