River Dee at Farndon

Post by Luke Sharpe »

Does anyone have any info they can pass on about the Dee at Farndon.

I have looked at it on the left bank up stream from the bridge (where people picnic) and there seems to be some nice looking pegs.

Who controls this stretch?
Is it worth fishing?
Is it as good as it looks?
What's there in it to catch?
What methods work best?

Any tips on pegs to fish and baits to use would be greatfully received.

Luke.

The pegs on the car park at Farndon are free.It can be fantastic winter fishing
with dace and chub being the main species. Some monster pike around so have a rod ready to throw out a livebait. There was a time when you had to be there about 4am to get a peg,it was a oops having to sit there till first light in the middle of winter.Bronze maggot was always the bait to use when I fished it.People in the know feed big balls of riddled molehill soil with a few maggots in it produce a cloud without feeding off the fish. The water can be very clear sometimes so by dropping in the soil all the time a cloud is produced which gives the fish confidence to feed. The other side of the river is controlled by either cheshire or chester AA.

Ever since the major pollution a few years ago,80%+ of the fish been killed   The Dee these days just full of small fish after re-stock   But still, you can catch them on a very cold winter day :D

River Dee Farndon

Dee Anglers control several sections above and below the bridge at Farndon opposite bank to free pegs. You can still get mixed bags of coarse fish and occasional flounder. Instead of joining Dee Anglers and being limited to the waters they control you could join Darlach Angling Association which is affiliated to Dee Anglers and is allowed to fish their waters as well asthe Darlachs three or four sections of the River 7 near Welshpool and 3 small ponds on the Wirral which are ideal for youngsters, with lots of small fish. Membership cost about £30 per year and for juniors about £7 per year. No waiting list at the moment. Please email me if you want more details. Cheers Rob
