Stanley Embankment, Map Ref 281 801

Directions:- Cross over on the Britannia Bridge (A55) and follow the dual carriageway for about 16 miles to the Caergeiliog turn-off. Follow the road into Y Fali (valley) and go straight on.

There are 4 marks around the embankment area as follows.

The Inland Sea. As you leave Y Fali towards Holyhead you will see a Eurotyres franchise on your right. Park on the wasteland here. Go across the road and through the gate in the wall. Follow the track round over the rail level crossing and then under the A55. As you come out of the tunnel turn right up the embankment and follow the wall path right to the end to the water chute. In this area you will catch bass, sea trout, garfish and at night when the tide is flat and calm doggies, bullhuss, smoothound and the odd conger. Beware of kayakers using the water chute.

The Platform. Park in the same place and walk along the pavement on the embankment for about 200 metres to the platform. At low tide fish in the channel directly down in front of you for schoolie bass.

The Wall. Drive across the embankment and take the first right Penrhos Coastal Park. Park here then walk back to the embankment and walk along the base of the wall until you get to the water chute. At high tide slack there is a mullet shoal literally right at your feet. At low tide try walking along the channel spinning for bass.

Penrhos Point (Gorsedd-Y-Penrhyn Map Ref 280 815) Low tide only. Again park in Penrhos Coastal Park but this time walk along the beach keeping the sea to your right for nearly a mile to the point. Fish the channel for bass using live sandeel, live rag, or prawn.

Point to note, Penrhos Coastal Park has public toilets. In addition, if you have kids, it is a good walk with three ponds with ducks etc. Further up the road is Holyhead shopping park with Tesco's, Argos, Wilkinsons etc (keep her indoors happy)
