It's a excellent time to lure fish for pike as long as conditions are right ! but the key is location find out where you local pike are ( not so far from the roach / bream shoals ) and wait till conditions are right then you should be able to ambush the ambusheredism wrote:I know this is a bit of an old post but .......is it worth me trying a bit of pluggin in canal for pike this time of year?
i lost count of the number of pike i landed whilst spinning at nite on the canal last season, every time i spend a day on the bank piking i travel light so i can walk home casting a lure all the way, ive had many pike in totally dark areas but have always found it pays to stop off and throw a lure around by a street light, the street light seems to attract roach, perch, bream etc which means the pike won't be far away and the glare from the light will reflect off the lure and a pike will see it from a good distance away. i love fishing canals. always full of surprises. my biggest canal caught pike that ive had on the scales was 18.6 but i'm convinced 2 others ive caught whilst not carrying scales were touching 20, i dont always take scales as i'm not much of a trophy angler, as long as i have a good time (which i always do) thats what matters, not the exact weight of what i may have caught. altho i do love to get a piccy!!my mate had a 25.2 the season before last & ive heard stories of the odd one touching 30 comin out of my local boat marina. pike are such an interesting fish, i love them!! gotta be careful with them tho. they are the most sensitive coarse fish when it comes to being handled....kenny101265 wrote:It's a excellent time to lure fish for pike as long as conditions are right ! but the key is location find out where you local pike are ( not so far from the roach / bream shoals ) and wait till conditions are right then you should be able to ambush the ambusheredism wrote:I know this is a bit of an old post but .......is it worth me trying a bit of pluggin in canal for pike this time of year?

spoons do very well throughout autumn winter and as winter get longer and colder try moving your lure / spoon along the bed of your choosen venue slower than normal which induce's the pike to take ( meal getting away etc etc ) as for night fishing with lures it does work but you have to work alot harder at it lures painted in black with some form of vibration are good ( pike will only see the siloette after homing in on the vibration ) no need for fancy colours etc good luck and happy piking
