Whats in a basic rig kit?

I'm ready to envole to the next level of fishing by making my own rigs.

What line do you recomend to use etc etc..

Are the crimps any good for tieing on hooks and swivels as i'm pretty carp at knots..

Most important thing is to get practising your
knots mate...........no excuse to be carp theres
loads of info on here to help you,also no-one
will want to fish next to you if you cant tie
a knot correctly

Check out the rigs in this section for ideas,and www.animatedknots.com shows how to tie good knots...the uni knot is very good for rig tying

I find Sunset Amnesia pretty good for hook lengths, not had any knots slip yet. For rig bodys I use 50lb Ultima Seastrike XT which can be got quite cheaply.

Some 80lb rolling swivels, lead links of some descripton (breakaway fast clips are good), pvc tubing for bait stops and pennal hooks, 8mm beads and some 10mm sequins. If you doing some clipped rigs them either breakaway clips or some nice stiff wire half inched from BT and 1mm pvc tubing

I also use soft crimps to position swivels between beads.. but just nip them lightly so as not to damage the line. Some poeple prefer power gum or stop knots.

Hooks is a whole can-o-worms

I like sakuma matra for small hooks but found the larger ones bend out or snap easily. I'm using Varvias salt water champions (Veals) in the larger sizes at the moment and they seem like a good hook. Aberdeens are a good patern to have for the smaller sizes from any good manufacturor. It really depends on what suits you and your bait presentation the best.

Thanks all..

Knots wont be a problem once I get used to it but was wondering if there was an easier way as some of the pre made rigs I have are not tied but moulded/ crimped together.

I can follow the how to make a rig but is there a better type/make of line to use.

Do you all use rig jigs? Has anyone made their own if so could you send me a piccy.

Never met anyone who uses a jig rig.Don't crimp anything together that is going to be subjected to casting forces.Most people use amnesia for hook lengths.
