Knot wars

What are your fav knots, I looked at knot wars on the web from 2008 and found that the Palomar knot won. I think the event was sponsored by Trilene and although their knot did'nt win, i find it a bit suspicious that the knot requiring lots of line to tie won? Not that i'm cynical of course

I usually use the improved clinch knot that my dad taught me but he called it a blood knot? And he was taught but an old git called Jack McKnight.

I think it's called and Albright... I use it to tie the shock leader to my mainline - cool looking knot - especially if you tie it with a few more turns than is really necessary

The knots i use to tie hooks and swivels is the trilene or grinner, when i tie rigs i get bored of using just one knot so i alternate

Ive also recently masterd the bimini twist and have started using it to tie on my shockleader

I like that one, its a 'harder' knot to learn but its great when you get it perfect for the first time

But Even though the videos have been made to explain how to tie the knot they are still relativly hard to understand

Ill show you next sunday how to tie it

Palomar is indeed the stongest knot to tie on hooks, swivels etc. It's also very easy and is good on heavy lines

I tend not to use it for snood lengths because I find it a bit harder to judge the length of line the knot will use after it's tied.

I use the uni knot for hooks, swivels etc with a double turn through the eye.
Bimini twist with a grinner for leaders when tied at home
improved albright if I need to tie a leader on the beach
The standard leader knot for tieing leaders when off on casting practice
I use a tucked blood knot if I want a weaker knot as part of a rotten bottom setup
The only other knot i use regularly is one when i'm making my own mackie feathers, but no idea what thats called

The grinner knot for me as it is easy and strong. But i also use the blood knot on leads over rocky ground as a type of weak link
