The bank in front of the Town Hall Steps

Hi All,

I have noticed when in front of the town hall steps that as the tide goes out a bank is revealed with a channel coming close in from right to left. When the tide is up, a short lob to this channel gets the fish. I have been told that walking onto the bank as the tide receeds allows fishing into the main channel, where there is a better chance of cod / more fish being caught. Can you tell me; how long do you get on the bank, can I fish on the right side of the incoming channel on a rising tide without fear of not being able to retreat, and has anyone done this previously and if so have you caught plenty of fish.

its called dead dead mans bank and for good reason, you can get onto it at low water and its a relitavely easy chuck too the channel (comparetively speaking), but as soon as the tide turns you need to keep a very close eye on the gully behind you, it fills up quick and its hard to run with all your tackle, veer on the side of caution and leave early rather than " one last cast" late

Sorry Dave,
Dead Mans bank is in front of Vale Park, the bank that is being refered to is fished at low water by a few anglers, you have to be aware of the silt build up as well as any gully's, the area were most people fish down to low is in front of the waterfall near the ramp at the back of the baths.

just looked on the chart and it is not named, but i think it is something like plummington bank

sure one of the boating people will give us a shout on it

Was given advice on this bank to walk to the groin and clamber up the rocks if you were in difficulty.DONT!!!!

This year the tide comes in from the groin end first and also it is very muddy.

The gulley behind you at Townhall is not too bad as long as you keep an eye on it and don't push your luck.

Once you see it filling from either end ...get off and fish from the right of the steps looking to the river off the prom.

DONT TAKE CHANCES.
