it would depend how you wanted to "play" the fish a 2.5 TC would give a great bend to the rod where as a 3lb TC would just bully it in

Id suggest a 2.75lb tc rod, light enough to to enjoy a fight yet a bit of extra backbone to help 'control' fish away from snaggy areas, anything over is unsporting

Down south I used to catch 30's on 6lb line and 1 1/2 TC. We could because we had plenty of clear water to play the fish in. And the light rod acted as a shock obsorber for the light line. Don't supose you want to share the location of this water?

there are ones 15mins from my house in lower ridge fishery and psac waters

i have never had a 30ish fish that hasnot snapped me at the landing net. my biggest is 24lb carp. i had it on a 2.75lb test 18lb line you could prob go down to a lighter line but i was fishing in a foot of water with alot of weed.

Make sure you have a bait runner as when i caught mine in holland on the canal it pulled my rod straight in and i had to go in after it luckily the fish was still on.
