aberdaron in October

I'm heading to aberdaron, just south of pwhelli, a week on Saturday and fancied taking my rods. I'm staying near the main beach and would like to take my rods.

I've never fished that end before an wondered if anybody knew any marks that way. I can't see any on the venue area.

Any body got any tips? Bait? Tackle? Extra? Not bothered what to target just some knowledge of an area I've not fished before.

Hi mate,

I fished Aberdaron beach about 5 years ago with my grandad on the advice of the fella that owns the tackle shop in pwllheli. He caught the best fish of his life in a lovely bass which we didnt weigh through a lack of scales but we did measure it at 18 inches long, which was a great fish for us as amateurs. I had a schoolie myself. We fished a night tide and I think it was the end of Sep/start of October so a similar time of year. We were told to fish towards the stream that flows into the sea and we fished just to the left of it. We used pully pennel rigs if I remeber rightly with im not sure if it was lug and razor cocktails, I know we definitely used razor though! We had a nice surf that night and did have a problem with weed but that bass was worth it!

I have also fished it on two seperate occasions both in the summer and had a turbot during the day and nothing else and then a shed load of dogfish in the evening.

There used to be a bit of rough ground under the coastguard hut that could also be worth a chuck, especially if you get a high water going into dark.

Can fish well for bass, try low water,especially neaps,ideally with a bit of a blow from a southerly aspect, rough ground to the right, clear to the left with the odd boulder, normal baits work,lug,razor,peeler,sandeel, check out porth Ceriad not far from Aberdaron back towards Abersoch, you will see information in the venues section, absolutely stunning storm beach, as an alternative ,you could also try porth oer (whistling sands) to the west, can be good early and late for bass on lug or sandeel, dogs can be a problem everywhere, plugs are always worth a go early and late ....

Maybe a coincidence but i spoke to some chap the other night in work who told me he caught a bass with his grandson in Aberdaron, he was a retired HGV driver and lived around Crown ave in ditton widnes, i was at his mother in laws, same person ???

Only shops nearer that do fresh bait are in Pwllheli or Porthmadog but i would phone them first as it tends to be mostly in the summer months.

The store in Aberdaron used to sell frozen bait as does the tackle shop in Abersoch.
