Vale Park this Friday

Thinking of giving Vale Park a bash in the night this Friday after work having only fished LT in the day there.

LT Is 2.9 metres at 11pm. Is it worth fishing this and if so what time can the gulley currently be crossed.

Yes it`s worth it...the codling usually start showing better there from Jan onwards in my experience.....can`t be exact on the times with it being a smaller tide but generally @ 3 hours before low....the codling generally feed best in the first hour you can get out there,so it`s better to be there and maybe wait 1/2 hour for the channel to empty enough,than get there late....it`s surprising how quickly it empties so don`t get miffed if there still looks like a lot of water there if you`re a bit early.

You will be well down on the beach so don't expect much in the way of shelter.

You will get much more shelter at town hall over low water. As steve says Vale park is pretty open and there's not a great deal behind you to break the wind. That said though the wind will be off your back so it's not like it will he uncomfortable fishing anyway.

S/W winds are not a prob like Shaun says....the big houses on the prom will take something off that wind too.

Sadly I've been attacked with a vicious strain of man flu and Friday is looking 50/50 for me now. I'll attack the beast with Vindaloo and Chicken Soup tomorrow and hope for the best.

Been dying to practice my casting as well so was looking forward to trying out the pendulum without knocking a jogger/cyclist flying, fingers crossed.

Should I recover from this affliction what time can Town Hall Steps be fished from before/after low as we might give that a go?

You can fish it as soon as sand bank appears if you have waders but I normally wait till 3 hours before low and you can get across in wellies and fish 1 hour after low

They`re all safe,it just depends on how soon you can get out....whatever size tide,you`ll have a good hour after low before having to head back in.

Can I ask a tide question? I know fishing the Mersey over 8.5 metres on the Liverpool side is a no go for holding bottom/weed etc. Does this also apply to really big tides on low. For example, next weekend sees a 10.5m high and 0.20cm low, would I struggle to hold bottom at Vale Park/Perch Rock/Town Hall?

It will be harder to hold bottom but not impossible . Heavy fixed grips low diameter line and cast uptide, leave a bow in your line and don't fish too tight a line. The problem I have found on the big low tides is the sand seems to wash way faster and uncover more line snags. Give it a go and see how you get on

You rarely have any weed probs fishing down to low,but the tidal pull can be very strong....try what Trishy has suggested and also try to work out how far you can cast before hitting the strongest flow....cast too far and you`ll just get dragged down the river.
