I'm new to sea fishing & just reading an article on beach surf fishing (sea angler dec issue) are there any beaches in the north west where this type of fishing is possible,i normally fish carp & still water & I've only ever sea fished on family holidays.
I'm currently laid up in plaster so getting as much info onbaord for the time i can get out & give it a go.

Don't know what the article is about, bout there is usually a good surf on all the NW beaches if you have a decent (15-20mph) onshore breeze.

Aye, use a map to find a beach, look which way it is facing, look at wind direction.
Surf fishing not the easiest (or safest) of fishing for a starter though, particularly this time of year - the exception are some of the classic dumping surf beaches, like Dinas Dinlle & Penmon bay which fish best over high on springs, meaning you can camp at the high water mark and get 2 hours fairly easy fishing either side of high water time.
Fishing the shallow surf beaches typical of end of the wirral, formby, north wales coast between colwyn bay and talacre requires light tactics (with some exceptions on certain venues) and a very good appreciation of the dangers you could face, e.g. getting cut off on a flooding tide, getting stuck in mud (yes it really happens!) and losing your bearings at night or if fog decends. This isn't just me being ultracautious for the sake of it - it is extremely easy to get disorientated in reduced visibility, even on a beach you may be relatively familiar with and some venues have deep mud, though on beaches this will only be around groins or other fixed structures.
Rather than going full surf, why not start having a crack at the Town Hall Steps, Perch Rock, Vale Park over low, pretty much guaranteed a fish and you should get a chance to have a chat with other anglers as they are popular venues. If you are after information further north then sorry, its out of where I have experience, but there is plenty of info on the site.

Kimmel Bay definitely fishes better but is
More dodgy with a big gulley at the top of the
Beach that fills in Very ffast a few hrs before
High water.....
