Sunday evening

Post by Local/Brian »

Probably my last Perch Rock session now for the next month and a half ? even though I enjoyed it again .
Time to try other things and target other fish different from smooth hounds and thornback ray.

Started last night around 8.30 Pm by 9.15 I had to move because I got caught up twice on first 2 retrieves and lost my gear ? shock leader and rig on a 3 occasion
Think it was due to previous lost gear the snag was not solid more like elastic could feel the give and spring back in what ever the snag was.

Any way never affected the fishing that much was ok after the move and into the thornbacks not long after.
Best bait during the session was just squid on its own / the bluey wasn't doing its normal thing on this occasion

I will probably do some bass and rock fishing along with the fishing areas that never seem to get fished local ?
Have the next month and a half of being able to just have some fun before the better quality fishing starts to kick in and start fishing Anglesey for good mixed bags and target the better sized thornbacks local.

See you on the next one AND DON'T FORGET GET INVOLVED WITH THE POSTS AND REPLYS other wise you make things boring if its just left to a few ???

Cheers Brian

Yeah, as mentioned in my last post. I've found the area has become quite snaggy. Never had a problem previously. I suppose the recent good weather may have brought out some of the more casual anglers that think 15lb straight through to a 6oz lead will be fine. Have 2 or 3 crack offs then go home
Dayne.
It's always better to be lucky than good!!! :-D

A good session Brian. I have often thought that snags get exposed when we have had some big tides. After a while they get covered up again and things go back to normal. Also when an angler pulls into a snag he may drag a few more out making a mini snag pit.If I can get away with it I will use a pyramid or watch lead to avoid the grip wires snagging.

It was mentioned to me last year that there is a tarpaulin of some sort snagged between the lighthouse and the green buoy.

Having fished a number of matches and getting snagged up on nearly every retrieve, i now fish to the left

Just as productive
Only here for the cod!

Who knows  we never really get to see the problem even on the big spring tides

Could also be Mr Steve Duffy doing covert mission when lead sales drop off :naughty:  .

Cheers Brian.

Good session Brian. I'm hoping to catch a double figure hound before season ends on the rock channel.
I rarely get snagged because I use size 6 chinus or size 1 bendy but good enough for fish upto 9lb aberdeens. They either come back fine or really straightened out. Plus 30lb mainline with slow walking back does the job. Some of the rays glue to the floor too especially the males :D

As for the double figure hound hope am there to see it / give me a shout :dance / they have seem to gone thin on the ground again at the moment ???
Would you not be better off trying for a 10lb plus smooth hound from the high water venues in the River

Not long now before the interesting fishing starts.

Cheers Brian.

I'm actually thinking I'll catch a double on a hardback crab. I've just seen a post of someone achieving this somewhere in the uk.
The hardback crab you can choose your sizes whereas peeler and softback your limited. Also I've had them spit out crispies alive and they've been a good size too.

Your probably right about the river, but I like the peace of the rock channel.

Looks like Perch will be the go to venue with the rest of this month all being smallish tides ?
so unless we get some favourable winds for other beach venues ? its looking like my best option for fishing.
