Myself,Sven,Ryan,Gaz,Lee and Dave W hit Formby beach late afternoon to get a few fresh linfords for our cod hunt at Hall Rd.As i`d already pumped enough on Fri,i got a few for Bluecat who assured me he would defo be fishing tonight needless to say,he never turned up At least he knows never to ask me again
After a stop off in Crosby for a much needed keeeeebab,we got to the beach It was a bit nippy in the light breeze,but you soon warm up once you start fishing.The tide was only 28ft which meant it would barely reach the prom on the stretch we were fishing.
We set up and walked out to meet the incoming cod filled waters,and lashed out pennel rigs stuffed with top quality worm First chuck resulted in a nice codling of 2-3-0 for me would it be good enough to take the £1 sweep
I was in the lead for 10 mins before Dave W landed one of 3-0-0
We were hopeful of more action particularly in the early flood,and it was`nt long before Sven got in to the action with a codling of 2-0-8
On his next chuck,his rod started bouncing for England,and a good fish was on A few of us gathered round to watch him reel in,looking at his rod thumping away....this must be a biggie we thought....as his end gear approched,Dave W waded out to help to land the monster,and was really taken aback when the cod jumped up at him it was cunningly disguised as a gull (possibly oyster catcher,but feathered things are`nt our strong point)
After the delicate operation of freeing the bird from the line,he got his breath back and flew off in to the night sky Leaving Svens heart thumping,and thoughts of what might have been
LOL,BDF,Stu n Wendy were fishing a little further to the right,and it was LOL who was first in,with a good size whiting
After taking and releasing a baby codling,i was in to another of 1-15-0
On my left was Gaz,Lee n Ryan who were struggling to get bites,until Gaz took the sweep money with this nice fish of 3-5-8
The condition of all of the codling was spot on...perfect markings,and bright colours
My rod was soon bouncing again and i completed my set with another codling of 1-10-0
Things went quiet towards high water,but BDF came good at the death ith a fish of 1-14-8
The end of a very enjoyable day...plenty of laughs,a keeeeeeebab and a couple of cans of J.Smiths,topped off with a few nice fish
If Hall Rd fishes like this on a smallish tide with a full moon,it`ll be throwing up monster cod when tides are a bit bigger

didn't seem to mind being handled, when we had straightened his feathers out and carefully placed him on the sand, he just sat there for a mins looking about then flew off into the night..
