Hook length

at the moment im using black aberdeens size 2/0 there about 45mm long. at the fish and meet paul let me use some of his rigs (sorry i snagged so much) and i think the hooks where the same size but with a shorter length about 30mm.

how much difference does the lenght make to the targeted species? school bass is my usual catch but will be fishing mostyn soon for plaice, dabs, flounder or any thing that bites i suppose. should i have a look for shorter hooks?]

p.s. only use worm baits but tempted to try cockles and peeler after some freindly advice

Short hook lengths about 25cm max on a flapper. No need for anything longer because of the tide rip. Make sure the weather has been dry for a few days prior to going I use no bigger than a size 2 (NOT 2/0) Normally I use size 4. If using rag dont bother using the head, It just bulks up the hook too much.

25cm thats more like the size of an anchor or do you mean for the snoods. for snoods i use amnesia clear or black 20lb at 10-45cm depending on the rig yet i do have some pulleys at 130cm.

i meant the lenght of the hook from the eye to the curve as my size 4/0 are only 50mm and my size 2/0 i have in 45mm and have seen them at 30 mm

the snood' length depend's on the fish.

the rig i showed u for wrasse had 2 inch snoods and a size 1 hook.

as for flounder at moston i would use a 1 up 1 down rig.

snoods of 38 inchs and size 2 hooks.

A 6 foot rig if they meet in midde for clips ? Never thought of going that big. I'll tie some up for trying this weekend.

what lenght of snood and hook size is best for bass ive got 12inch snoods with size 2/0 hooks some on single hooks and some 2 hook flappers. have used 2 hook booms with 4 inch snoods.

now this is a teaser

1/some will use a pennel with a 3/0 hook long snood about 28" to 32"
2/same as above but shorter snoods 12" 18"
best to alternate depending were the fish are/tide rip

3/1up 1 down hook lenths still alternate it from long /short snoods
4/pully rig rig body 3ft with swivel at the end so you can alternate again from long to short hook lenths
5/1 down same again alternate the hook lenths

its always best to make 2 of each and try them out in turn which ever you catch on then you can bait up both wasting no time just unclip cast then sort out the beached fish bass gets hectic when they are on the feed hardest part is finding them.

i use number 3. 80% of the time with long snoods no longer than 32"

number 4. is the 20% with 3ft body and 20" hook lenth all with size 3/0 hooks bass have big mouths

thanks for the advice. just finished a few hours of making rigs up about 30 i think. i have ordered 100x 1/0 and 50x 3/0 hooks. will try a change my snood lenghts about tomorrow and see what effect it has.

i make mine when the gay footy with the round ball is on then at winter time lose the full rig wallet

now my rig making bitch(lee) has moved back to manchester i have had to make my own and after a good few losses on sunday ive had to refill my tackle box and melt some lead. luckly its hard to lose tackle on surf beaches but im preperd to tackle(and conquer) rock marks now i know what to expect
