I was looking forward to this match, with all the stories of the monster fish that caught. I found the venue easy enough, thanks to Trev and a quick look on google earth. Today i took an extra bait with me....Cat meat...So i was told. Anyway we had the weekly pre-match chatter, then the draw was made...

I usually pick the 20s. As these were the good pegs for the day, i drew number 2. Not a bad peg...i was told, but the carp go straight into the tree roots
A short walk with my new trolley :P and i was there. Then i saw what they meant about the tree roots...more like spaghetti....

A quick look round . Then i elected for an Island, Nearside and Middle swim.

At the off i put half a can of Kitty-Kat in the near swim. and a bit of everything else in the far swim. The middle swim was lightly dosed with a bit of dry groundbait. Out went the pole at 13 meters to the far side. The wait was on......It wasn't long before my float was dancing....It was them damned tiny roach/rudd attacking my float
After a while it was clear the fish were not playing today. They were there...Sunbathing...some monsters an all. I sat watching them for hours, i spotted a couple that must be well over the 20lb mark. The guy to my right managed a carp but was not hooked where it was supposed to be  .....

A view to left....nothing doin' up there either.....

I made up my mind....Go for the bits. 18s hook with a single maggot was flicked out at 2 pole sections, brought instant results. I stayed with this method for quite a while.......Then :!:

Image

Something really big took the bait and i just sat back and watched my 8s elastic motor off around the island....Gooten nacht wien :(
Out came the 16s elastics and shoved the pole to the island. I fed a shed load of worm. Dunked the float in, then bingo...Straight under. Carp on......The elastic shot out and headed straight for the tree roots.... :(
This happened a couple more times    Next bite i was determined to catch. Under the float sailed......and....i threw my pole behind me  The fish was clear of the roots, it felt weird, after a short while in came a nice Snotty (Yuck). God i hate them roots....

With not long left, i did the same again and managed to hook a carp and got it clear of the roots. Ten mins later i had a 5 to 6 lb mirror in the net. :)
I finished the day with a shed load of bits. 1 Eel and a Mirror Carp for 9lb 12oz. I ended up well down the list.......If only (them Tree Roots)
Its a shame Fred never caught that 46lb Catfish again

Bring on the next match :)
