First time i fished this venue in 17years, its a lot shallower now and filled up with sand. seems the once decent peeler crab grounds are all but disappeared now 🙁

Looking out towards the wind farms, i noticed the Hoyle Bank has shifted a lot to the right since i was here last, it now seems level with Mockbeggars Bay (Leasowe Castle), and edge of it creates a large wide gulley that sweeps around from the right to the left filling the Gutter on an incoming tide approx 3 hours before high.

Guinea Gap Baths – 15-12-2024

Well round 5 was planned for vale park over high I arrived just before 7am only to find another club pegging out the left hand side of the shelter for a match they were holding there. So waited for everyone else to arrive when we started talking about what to do next so while everyone booked on they all chatted with each other about what to do so once everyone had booked on we had a meeting and the options of fishing the right hand side or to move up to guinea gap and the majority voted to move to guinea gap so we all shot off and reconvened at the top of the ramp by the baths once everyone was ready we all set off to our chosen spots.
So we all got set up in plenty of time so 9 am the match started and it didn’t take long for the first fish coming over the rail’s mainly whiting and dabs this was how it carried on for the next 2 hours until Brian Roper found a nice codling of 45cm this encouraged some of us to carry on trying for a codling but no more showed up except a smaller 25cm codling caught by Tanya Denny . As the match neared the end it looked like it was going to be close with most anglers having a flat and round fish on their card . Soon enough it was 1 o’clock and all in was called so back to the cars for the results and some refreshments. So I put the hotdog s on to cook and then sorted the cards.so while I sorted the results Robert Turner turned into head chef and sorted out the food while everyone else had a drink Dave Roberts sorted out the table for the secret Santa and everyone put their gifts on the table. So with all the results sorted and everyone fed and watered we did the presentation and in. 1st was Brian roper who found a dab to go with his cod for a total of 73cm and he also won the pool for biggest fish with his 45cm codling .
2nd went to Dan Davies who managed to find a 34cm whiting on his 2nd to last cast to go with his dab for a total of 60cm he also won the pool for smallest fish with a 6cm sand eel.
3rd went to Dave Roberts, Rob turner and John Waugh who all had a dab and a whiting for 59cm.
6th went to Gary swift, Jordan Roberts and Tanya Denny who all had 58cm. 9th went to Tom Roberts and Meireg Darley with 57 cm.
The golden peg was number 24 Chris James but unfortunately he didn’t win so it roll’s on to the next match .

So with all results done we moved on to the secret Santa and everyone had put a gift on the table so I drew all names out at random until all gifts were gone so all in all was a great day that went well in the end I hope everyone enjoys the Christmas break and hopefully see you all at our next match on Sunday 12th January at Seaforth. As soon as I get chance to update the halfway totals I will put up a current leader board and an update on All the fish pools

Otterspool Promenade – 1-12-2024

Last minute change of venue back to Otterspool, 25 anglers turned up at a rather wet Mersey road but by the time we had all booked on the weather matched the forecast and the rain stopped and the wind eased off. We all set off to our chosen spots and got set up soon enough it was 9am and All in was called fishing was patchy up and down the prom with a few whiting here and there but a few sizable whiting with plenty over 30cm with the biggest whiting of the day being a 37cm specimen from Chris James and a couple at 34cm for me and Tanya Denny there were also a few flounder and a couple of dabs caught aswell. Then came the news that a cod had been caught further down the prom it turned out to be Dave Roberts who had a 57 cm cod weighing in at 5lb.
With the end getting closer people tried for different species to try and add to their totals with the format of your 2 biggest of each species caught it was still all to play for right up till the last cast so at 1pm All in was called and back to the carpark for the results. While everyone had a hot drink or soup I totted up the scores and it was close.
1st was Dave Roberts with 2 whiting and his cod for 113cm.
2nd was John Waugh with 2 whiting and 2 flounder for 111cm.
3rd went to Daniel Davies with 2 whiting and 2 dabs for 105cm
4th Andy Hunt with 2 whiting and a flounder for 87cm.
5th Dylan Kensall 85cm
6th Dave David Andrew Lunt 65cm
7th Will McClintock 65cm
8th Robert Turner 63cm
8th Chris James 63cm
10th Jordan Roberts 62cm
10th Yurie 62cm.
Biggest fish pool went to Dave Roberts with a 57cm cod.
The pool for most species was won by Dave Roberts and John Waugh both with 3 species.
Again thanks to everyone who made it and apologies for those that couldn’t our next match is on the 15th December at vale park 9 till 1 this will be our Christmas match and the secret Santa / fur and feather meeting up at the bottom of magazine lane hope to see as many of you there as possible,

Otterspool Promenade – 24-11-2024

Round 3 results and report
Round 3 saw us at Otterspool 25 anglers turned out for what was a windy day but at least the rain didn’t start . The match got off to a slow start with only a few whiting coming over the rail’s it continued like this for the next hour or so then a shout went out bring the drop net and Daniel Davies had a nice little codling of 46 cm. Time was ticking by and still only the odd whiting being landed then Daniel was off again this time he had a slightly bigger codling of 47 cm which set a target for everyone else then word came up the prom Dale Edwards had a decent cod which measured 73 cm so with less than an hour to go it was down to who could get different species to raise their totals and at the end of the match nobody knew how close it might be so with all the cards in and sorted the results were in.
1st place went to Daniel Davies who found 2 whiting to go with his 2 codling for a total of 147 cm.
2nd went to Dale Edwards who also found 2 whiting to go with his big cod for a total of 139cm.
3rd went to Jordan Roberts who had the only Ray of the match at 64cm with 2 whiting for 124 cm.
4th went to Gary swift who had the only other cod in the match with 2 whiting for 105cm.

Biggest round went to Dale Edwards with his 9lb 10oz 73cm cod!
Biggest flat went to Tanya Denny with a 25cm dab.
All things considered it was a good day a bit windy but dry 4 cod were caught and a nice Ray the whiting didn’t show up on mass maybe the amount of fresh water coming down the river pushed them further down the river who knows.
So next match will be guinea gap up to seacombe next Sunday 1st December hope to see as many there as possible

Round 2 Result

Well Round 2 saw a last minute venue change as we were greeted by rough conditions with the wind in are faces so it was decided to move the match to guinea gap.
So everyone got parked up and 28 anglers booked on and we did a numbered walk off we delayed the start until 10 o’clock but everyone was set up by 9.30 so we decided to start at 9.45 and still fish till 2. It was a slow start with only a few fish showing which for some of us didn’t change but there was a few fish caught up and down the prom with dogs whiting and dabs coming over the rail’s. The weather was on and off rain showers with a bit of a breeze from left to right and with it being a big tide the pull was quite strong with a lot of fine weed in the water. Soon enough it was the end of the match signalled by a shower of rain just to soak you while packing away. Back to the van going through the damp and wet cards and the results were in.
1st was a tie between Gary Richardson, Jon forester, and Mike Bishton who All found a dog and a 25 cm dab each .
4th went to Dylan Kensall with a dog and a dab of 24cm.
Biggest fish after a recount went to Jeff White who found a 33cm whiting.
Smallest fish went to the mini species master Dave Radcliffe with a tiny 9cm whiting.

Well done to everyone who placed again it was nice to see some new faces and some returning faces.
As discussed at the presentation next week’s match will be switched to Otterspool fishing from 13.00 til 18.00 hopefully the cod will put in an appearance.
